Students being monitored for, or who have qualified for, the ELP music program in grades 4-5 are offered an opportunity to participate in an advanced music class. This class meets weekly with Mrs. Gardner or Mr. Bari and is in addition to the regular classroom music program.
This music enrichment programming builds on what students are currently learning in their regular music classes and potentially gives students opportunities to create something new and original. This class is both teacher and student-led and may include both vocal and instrumental components. Students have an opportunity to reflect on musical processes as well as learn to assess their own performances.
As part of ELP music, each year, select students in the 4th and 5th grades are invited to attend the District 3 Elementary School Honor's Music Festival generally held in Brunswick . Participation is limited and specific criteria need to be met. Prior to the festival, Mrs. Gardner and Mr. Bari prepare students for this all-day musical event in which students will learn and collaborate with students from other schools. The event culminates in a late afternoon performance open to the public.
Referrals: Teachers, parents and students may refer any student they feel demonstrates a high level of talent or proficiency in music. For referral forms, please go to Forms section on the ELP home page.
